Looking at the statistics for how many people were taken in is astounding. In 1940, 6,769 Non-Jewish people were brought in to Auschwitz alone. In 1944, that number skyrocketed to 29,513. In total over that 5 year range, 161,785 Non-Jewish people were taken. Over that same period, 173,000 Jewish citizens were taken. In total, there were 334,785 inmates in 1944, in Auschwitz.
Up to 5 million non-Jewish people were killed during the holocaust. If they were seen as enemies of the Riech, they were executed. This includes homosexuals, "gypsies", disabled, fighters, Serbians, Romanians, and communists. If you did not agree with Hitler, you were taken out, no questions asked.
Seeing how many people, regardless of race, age, sex, and nationality, is truly terrifying. No one was safe from Hitler and his ideals. There was no escape for anyone unless they conformed to his standards. Which, for most, was impossible given that everything about them was "wrong".
